  • 1. Do I need a new roof? How do I know which roof to choose?

There are a lot of different factors that go into determining what roof system best fits your needs. Some folks need a full tear off depending on the roof structure. Our Delaware roofing contractors can determine the proper system for your house. You many have questions such as 'do I need to tear off or just an overlay'? 'Do I want shingles or metal?' 'What's the difference between the two?' There are many different things to look at when determining what you need, and we can answer all your roofing questions.

TIP: If you have two or more layers of shingles you must do a tear off.

  • 2. How do I get rid of those ugly black streaks on my roof?

Black streaks are common on roofs in Delaware. In areas with high humidity such as the tri-state area, unsightly black mold and algae growth runs ramped on rooftops. Mold and algae does damage to the shingles by actually feeding on the organic matter in the shingles. Our roofing contractors in Delaware can clean the shingles with products to kill mold and algae. All our products are biodegradable and not harmful to pets or plants. Then our roofers use low pressure, high volume pressure washing to rinse mold and algae off your roofing shingles. We have found that this is the best solution to permanently rid your roof of those black streaks. We use low pressure so we don't damage the granulation or life of the shingles. If your roof is older and may need replacing or repair in the near future you may want to consider installing architectural shingles.

  • 3. My roof has a low pitch, what do I have to do?

We install granulated rubber, SBS, EPDM, TPO and torch down roofs.

Flat roofs are very susceptible to leaks because water stays on the roof for longer periods of time. Our Delaware roofing contractors use EPDM (ethylene propylene diene monomer(M-class)rubber) which is the best for flat roofs. Although a bit pricey for a flat roof, the results are definitely worth it. Our roofing specialist choose this rubber because it is one of the highest quality rubbers on the market. It is put on with an adhesive so there's no risk of fire.

A less expensive option for flat roofs, is a granulated rubber. It's a cheaper quality material and doesn't last as long. However, if you're on a tight budget, this material might be a good option for your roof.

  • 4. How do I know what type of shingles I need?

We install three tab, architectural, dimensional and designer shingles. Our new architectural shingles have a built in algae resistance to keep the black streaks off your roof. There are cost effective solution now, with certain accessories that comes with a 50 year warranty. At A Parker Contracting, we will help you choose from a variety of options. The new roofing shingles are now twice the thickness as the old standard three tab.

  • 5. Can you tell me more about architectural shingles?

  • 6. How about slate roofing?

Slate roofs have the longest lifespan of any roofing material. Many customers like the look of slate, but don't like the higher cost. There are very good synthetics now that are much much cheaper than original slate. Our Delaware roofing contractors will discuss the pros and cons of slate roofing to determine if this is a solution for you.

  • 7. Is a metal roof right for me?

We install corrugated, master rib, standing seam and metal shingles. With a lifespan of 50 years to 70 years depending on the type you choose, a metal roof may be the last roof you'll ever install. Some people don't like the ascetics of metal roofing, other people would only have metal roofs. In our opinion, metal roofs are one of the finest roofing materials on the market. You can choose from a myriad of colors. Metal roofs can also be manufactured to look like shake, slate, shingles or clay tiles. Our Delaware roofing contractors can work with you in finding the perfect type of metal roof for your home.
